Relay only re-broadcasts your source exactly as it arrives, with no sound processing. Use it when your station is already processed (for example by your own Stereo Tool or Omnia at the studio) and you just need CastBridge's links, servers, player, widgets and directory listings.
Turn it on
- Open the stream's Edit page.
- In the Source section, tick Relay only: bypass all sound processing. The processing sections grey out.
- Set each output's Format to match your source (see below).
- Click Save & apply.
The stream card on the Streams page shows a Relay only tag.
Outputs carry your source's format
In relay mode nothing is re-encoded, so every output carries the source's own format and bitrate, whatever the output is set to. Set the outputs to match the source, for example MP3 for an MP3 source or AAC-LC for an AAC source. Supported source formats are MP3, AAC and Ogg.
Because nothing is re-encoded, you can't offer a second bitrate from a relayed stream. If you need MP3 128k plus AAC 64k from one source, turn Relay only off; the free processors are light, and you can use the Transparent loudness match only recipe for a near-untouched sound.
Why use it
- Lowest resource use: about 1% CPU instead of 5 to 25%.
- Your sound is exactly what you send, bit for bit.
- Everything else still works: HTTPS links, your own Icecast and Shoutcast servers, directory listings, stats, the Luna Player, widgets and Roku.
