Automated Song Requests Print

  • 0

With song requests, your listeners search your music library and ask for a song. Requests join the AutoDJ's request line and play before the normal programme, automatically. Limits stop anyone from flooding the line.

Turn requests on

  1. Open Requests in the menu (with the right station picked at the top).
  2. Tick Take requests from listeners and check the rules (below).
  3. Click Save. The Status box shows open when listeners can request.

The rules

Requests per listener per hour How many songs one listener (internet connection) may ask for in an hour. Default 3.
Requests waiting at once The most listener requests in the line at the same time. When it's full, listeners are asked to try again in a few songs. Default 10.
Same song again after Minutes before a song can be requested again. Songs that played recently count too. Default 60.
Same artist again after Minutes before another song by the same artist can be requested. 0 turns this off. Default 20.
Name and dedication Lets listeners add their name and a short message. You see the message on the Requests page and on the Dashboard (???? next to the request).

Requests pause on their own while a live DJ is on air and while the AutoDJ is stopped; the request box tells listeners why.

Choose which songs can be requested

Every song can be requested unless you switch it off. On the Media page, the Requests column has a switch for each song. To change many songs at once, search for them (for example an artist or album) and click Allow requests (shown) or Block requests (shown). The Requests page also has Allow all songs and Block all songs.

Jingles, sweepers and sound effects can never be requested.

Put the request box on your website

  • SmartStream website: on the Website page, tick Song requests under the sections. The request box appears on your site in its colours.
  • Any other website (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, your own HTML): on the Requests page, click Copy code under Request widget and paste it into an HTML / embed / custom code block on your page. It fits the width of the page and grows to fit its content.
  • Just a link: Copy link gives you an address you can share on social media, in a bio or in your app.

Pick the widget's Style (dark or light) and Accent colour on the Requests page; the preview shows the result.

Watching and managing requests

  • Recent requests on the Requests page lists every request with the time, song, name, message and whether it is in the line, played or removed. Remove takes a waiting request out of the line.
  • The Dashboard's request queue under Deck B marks listener requests with who asked. You can remove them there too with ×.
